Maya Angelou

  • American author and poet
  • Published:    6 autobiographies, 5 books of essays, numerous books of poetry, a long list of plays, movies and television shows
  • One of the most decorated writers of her generation
  • Dozens of awards
  • Over thirty honorary doctoral degrees
  • Her autobiographies focus on her childhood and early adult experiences

In 1993 she recited her poem "On the Pulse of Morning" at President Bill Clinton's inauguration, the first poet to make an inaugural recitation since Robert Frost at John F.
